The journey so far

Our Story

Over the last 8 years, God has used Step Up to help many people hear and respond to His voice.   It all started in a little room in Harrogate, when a team of church leaders from across the area started to dream.  God put it on their hearts to think about how they could walk alongside a small group of people for a whole year and see them released into the calling that He has for their lives.

At the start, we had noticed that there were very few people in their 20s coming into our churches, and we thought God was asking us to set up an internship for this age group.   We made several false-starts, and nearly stopped Step Up all together on two occasions as we didn’t seem to be getting anywhere.  But as we ourselves learned how to listen to God’s voice, we were reminded of Exodus 4:2 when God asked Moses “What is that in your hand?”.  We noticed that there were several older adults who were telling us that they were interested in growing as disciples and had the time to commit to the journey, so we decided to evolve Step Up to work for them instead, and since then we have seen growth.

It hasn’t always been easy, there have been twists and turns along the way, and there is still so much for us to learn about how God wants to use us all in this.  But we have seen fruit.  We’ve seen people’s lives transformed by God.   We’ve seen people step into their true identity for the first time.  We’ve seen people grow in confidence about their giftings.  And we’ve seen people released back to their church, home or workplace to start to fulfil the calling that God has for them. Step Up has also grown beyond Harrogate, with hubs in Wetherby, Bridlington and Wrexham too, and several other places interested to know more.  We would love you to be part of the story too.

What questions bring people to Step Up?

Why do I exist, and what’s the plan for my life?

Who am I and what is God’s plan for me?

Why do I feel so frustrated? Surely there’s more to life than this.

How do I know what God wants me to do with my life?

Who’s in charge of my life?  Me? Work? God?

Life seems to have suddenly changed for me.  What do I do now?

Life is full of twists and turns.  How do I know which way to go?
